Although most patients are sent home the same day of a permanent procedure, some require a longer hospital stay. Your doctor will decide when you can go home. Before you are released from the hospital or day surgery unit, you will learn how to care for your incisions. Your doctor will also discuss what activities to avoid, such as extreme lifting or bending. You will also receive instructions from the physician on how and when to use your system.
The weeks following your implantation surgery can be an exciting time as you become familiar with your spinal cord stimulator and begin to take control over chronic pain.
Most people find that living with a spinal cord stimulator requires little extra time or effort in their life and that SCS can be an important step toward pain relief.
