Linda's Story

Sunrises over a lake can be beautiful, especially when the cranes and geese arrive and softly dip their heads in the water. After moving to her lakeside home, Linda thought she’d be enjoying such scenes all the time. Yet just sitting on the shore would be difficult when she was hurting.

“I was living on painkillers,” she admits. “I was keeping my life going but not enjoying it.” Linda’s chronic pain came about after she was injured at her job. She was given medications and injections and even underwent surgery to deal with the problem, but none of the treatments seemed very effective. Somehow she managed to work but couldn’t exercise or spend time on her family boat. Sleep was an effort. She would toss in her bed but could never quite get comfortable.

The turning point came when she received a neurostimulation trial. “It felt like a new world,” she says. Afterwards, she had a neurostimulation system fully implanted, a decision that she says that changed her life. Linda was able to sleep again and return to many of her former activities. She now spends time on the water and recently took an ocean cruise with her grandchildren.

“It’s given me the freedom to do what I need to do,” she says of her implant. Linda describes her stimulation as a gentle pulsing sensation that eases pain and lets her use fewer drugs, which helps her function better. “I can make decisions because I’m not on medications,” she says.
