Just ask Kelly Green, who says his freedom was taken away by chronic pain. Heavily medicated and unable to sit, bend, or walk for very long, he spent much of his time at home, just trying to get through the day. |

“It was like being under house arrest,” he says. “Nobody wanted to visit me because I would just complain,” he says. “I don’t blame them. Friends don’t want to hear you complain.” Kelly remembers the pain starting to make him into a different person. “You lose sight of who you are,” he says. “I was letting the pain define me.” During his lowest points, he even pondered the unthinkable. After seeing a half-dozen doctors, Kelly finally found one who recommended neurostimulation. Almost immediately, the therapy reduced his pain and let him return to a more active schedule. Now he volunteers for the Red Cross, goes to movies, and takes weekend rides on his bicycle. According to Kelly, the stimulation has put his days of confinement behind him. “It’s like having a get-out-of-jail-free card,” he says.
