Jason's Story* The way Jason learned about neurostimulation was unique. Like many pain patients, his insurance company required him to be screened by a psychologist to receive care. The psychologist told him about neurostimulation. It would be the first step in his recovery from a five-year bout with pain.“I was at the end,” he says of that period. “I was just lying in bed and had no quality of life.” Jason had been a buyer for a home improvement store until a painful medical condition forced him to stop working. Despite trying a number of treatments, he never got lasting relief from the dull or stabbing pain that was with him nearly every day. He became despondent and considered taking his own life. Jason decided to try neurostimulation, and after he had a stimulator implanted, he was on such strong medications that he hardly felt its effect. Only when his dosages were reduced did he realize that his pain levels had changed. “I got major relief. It worked like nothing had before” he says. His relief further improved when he learned how to adjust his stimulator to cope with pain that changed throughout the day. Now Jason’s life is much different than before. He no longer spends his days in bed and can walk his dog, shop for groceries, and go camping. He’s even returned to work, although he’s taking it slow at first. He says he wants to let others know about his experience with neurostimulation. “I talk to a lot of people online who never even heard of this,” he says. “It helps so much. It’s changed my whole life and I am dedicated to helping others learn about this therapy.” *The above testimonial is the experience of this individual only.
