Your Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS) Trial

A spinal cord stimulation trial is an important step in determining if this therapy is right for you.

The purpose of this trial period is to determine

• Your response to stimulation
• Your level of pain relief
• If the stimulation sensation is acceptable
• The effectiveness of specific programs
• What kind of permanent SCS system you will need

Your Role in the Stimulation Trial

Your participation is vitally important to ensure a successful trial. You will need to follow your doctor's instructions, be a good observer, and take good notes. Use the Trial Diary that you were given to record your daily experiences with SCS.

Your goal should be to use the trial period to get as much information as you can—what stimulation works best, how your pain changes throughout the day, and the degree of relief that the stimulation provides.
