What Are the Types of Neurostimulation Systems?

St. Jude Medical neurostimulation systems are available with rechargeable and nonrechargeable batteries. The type of system that patients receive is based on their lifestyle, pain pattern, power requirements, and willingness to maintain a charging routine.

Types of Neurostimulation Systems - Rechargeable systems

Rechargeable systems

Rechargeable neurostimulators (such as the Eon™ and Eon Mini™ neurostimulators) contain a battery that must be recharged regularly in order to maintain effective therapy. Because the battery can be recharged, it can last longer than a nonrechargeable system.

Types of Neurostimulation Systems - Nonrechargeable systems

Nonrechargeable systems

Nonrechargeable neurostimulators (such as the Genesis™ and EonC™ neurostimulators) contain a battery that cannot be recharged. How long a nonrechargeable system lasts depends on its settings and how often it is used. Nonrechargeable systems require little effort to maintain.
